Where To Buy A Luxury Home Near Manhattan If You Want A View Of The Water

Real Estate Blog

Buying real estate close to Manhattan can be a very tricky process. There is so much competition for real estate, as well as a variety of locations and types of homes, that you might feel overwhelmed. However, if you have a very particular type of home and property in mind, it can be much easier. For example, there are many places close to Manhattan where you can buy a luxury home, but if you narrow it down further to only places where you can get a view of the water, you get fewer places, which is a great starting point for the real estate hunting process. So, with that said, here are three locations to look at if you are looking for a luxury home with a water view.

Riverdale, The Bronx

The Bronx actually has some of the most luxurious homes and biggest mansions in the entire city, which might surprise someone who is not familiar with the city. Riverdale in particular is well known for mansions. When you are looking for homes in Riverdale, you have two options for luxury homes. The first is the Fieldston area, which is centrally located, so it won't fit your criteria for a water view. The second area is the area west of the Henry Hudson Parkway, particularly the homes on Palisades Ave. These homes are not only beautiful and situated right on the edge, overlooking the Hudson River, but they are also secluded. There are few sidewalks, and it's very quiet. You can find luxury houses, and you can also find luxury co-ops that are built with gorgeous water views.

Larchmont, Westchester

If you move a bit north and east, you will end up in Westchester. Larchmont is one of the places that you should focus on. The area overlooks the Long Island Sound. It's home to quite a few luxury homes. The area is super convenient to people who need to commute into Manhattan every day (you can take Metro North, or drive in). The homes are luxury sized, and the neighborhood is safe and beautiful. In addition to the amazing view of the sound, there are country clubs and nice private beaches that are not crowded on the summer weekends.

Greenwich, Connecticut

If you want the ultimate in luxury, then you will love Greenwich. It's home to super-exclusive properties. This area of Connecticut gets the nickname "gold coast" because of the immense wealth. So, if you do have unlimited funds and want the biggest, most luxurious mansion possible, then you should focus your real estate search on the Greenwich area. You will have an unparalleled view of the Long Island Sound, as well as ample property, not to mention an amazing mansion that would look at home in any high-end home magazine.

Sarah's Renting Tips

Although I've never worked professionally in the real estate business, I sure know my way around it. How, do you ask? Well, I have simply rented a lot of different places and worked with a lot of different landlords and real estate agents. In the past 7 years I've lived in 11 different houses or apartments, none of them my own. In finding those 11, I have looked at literally hundreds of apartments. I used to hate house hunting, but now it's kind of fun. You just need to know what you want and the right questions to ask. Hopefully this blog can help you learn some of the tricks of the trade from another renter like yourself.
