Simple Steps To Make Your House Look Nicer Before You List It

Real Estate Blog

If you want to sell your house but are afraid that it needs too much work for anyone to buy it, there are some necessities you should complete before you put it up for sale. Every home for sale is unique and different, and as long as you make it look nice and price it right, you should be able to sell it within a reasonable amount of time. Here are some steps you should take as you prepare your home to be listed on the real estate market.

Walk Through Each Room And Make A List

A great place to start with your home is going into every room and making a list of things that need to be done. The things you list will most likely be surface issues, but making some minor repairs to these things can make a home look a lot nicer. Here are some of the things you might find on the list for the rooms in your home:

  • Paint – A fresh coat of paint covers flaws, improves looks, and makes a home smell nicer. Use neutral colors if you repaint any of the rooms, and be sure to fill in nail holes prior to painting.
  • Declutter – Decluttering is also a common step needed for many homes, and you should remove as much clutter as you can.
  • Minor repairs and cleaning tasks – If you have carpet in a room, you may want to wash it. If there are a few pieces of trim missing from a wall, replace them. If the blinds are worn out, put new ones up.
  • Clean the closets – It's also important to have clean closets when selling a home. A good rule of thumb is to try to keep the closets only half full to make them look larger.

Give Each Room A Meaning

One other step you should take as you walk through the rooms is making sure each room or area in your home has a definite use or meaning. If you have a spare room that is currently being used for junk, remove the junk and put in a bed and dresser. This will help people visualize how to use this space.

Clean Up Your Yard

Cleaning up a yard is another great step to take, and this can help improve curb appeal. To do this, make sure there is no junk in your yard. Remove all the leaves and branches if there are some present, and add some fresh flowers to your front porch.

These are all fairly simple steps, but they can make a huge difference. To learn more, contact a real estate agent today.

Sarah's Renting Tips

Although I've never worked professionally in the real estate business, I sure know my way around it. How, do you ask? Well, I have simply rented a lot of different places and worked with a lot of different landlords and real estate agents. In the past 7 years I've lived in 11 different houses or apartments, none of them my own. In finding those 11, I have looked at literally hundreds of apartments. I used to hate house hunting, but now it's kind of fun. You just need to know what you want and the right questions to ask. Hopefully this blog can help you learn some of the tricks of the trade from another renter like yourself.
